Chanel is reducing the impact of its activities and operations and going beyond its own footprint to accelerate progress. Chanel has set a goal to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2040. Chanel prioritises where it can have the greatest positive impact: evolving its business to low-carbon solutions; collaborating with its partners, suppliers, and the wider industry to address challenges; and investing in regenerative practices and nature-based solutions for its supply chains and landscapes, while supporting a just transition to a net-zero world.

- In recognition of the responsibility and role that luxury business should play in accelerating action to address the climate crisis, Chanel has committed to a target to reach net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its value chain by 2040, which has been validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
- Increasing the share of recycled gold sourcing to more than 80% within its Watches and Fine Jewellery business, building circular supply chains and supporting a decrease in its carbon footprint.
- Developing an eco-responsible cashmere supply chain in Mongolia and increasing the use of Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified cashmere, within its Fashion business.
- Leading the establishment of the Traceability Alliance for Sustainable Cosmetics (TRASCE) Consortium, which unites 15 different cosmetics companies to focus on improvements in mapping supply chains, while enhancing environmental and social sustainability at scale.2022
- In 2022, Chanel joined the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030, a collaborative initiative open to industry players focused on accelerating positive impact for people and the planet.

- Chanel joined the Task-Force on Natural Financial Disclosures Forum to deepen its understanding of the implications of the company’s impact and dependencies on nature.
2020
- Chanel launched in March 2020, its commitment to tackle climate change through CHANEL Mission 1.5°, in line with the targets of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.
